There are many reasons why I wouldn’t be a good God! However, the one that sticks out the most, is my inability to fully appreciate the multidimensional nature of humanity.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by a man’s face or height, for this is not the one. I don’t make decisions the way you do! Men judge by outward appearance, but I look at a man’s thoughts and intentions.” -1 Samuel 16:7 TLB

In 1 Samuel 16, the prophet Samuel is going to Bethlehem to anoint one of Jesse’s sons (Ruth and Boaz’s great grandsons) to be the next king of Israel, as the current king, Saul has been rejected by God. 1 Samuel 16:7 comes into play when Samuel begins to size up Jesse’s sons and God tells him that none of Jesse’s present sons are chosen, because He is looking beyond their physiques. This is when Jesse’s youngest son, David, comes bouncing in from fields and God tells Samuel to anoint him as the new king of Israel. God will later hail David to be “…a man after my own heart…” in Acts 13:22, a proclamation that no other biblical figure every received.

Just like David, you have been anointed for positions that only you can fill. No one else, seemingly better qualified or more perfect-appearing will do for God, because He chose you!

Isn’t that comforting and empowering? Not only do you have unique DNA and fingerprints, but you also have an equally distinctive calling to match!

Until Thursday,
