Heart Deep

Surprise, surprise… the weather has once again been stormy, here in the South. The collegiate tropical storm touched down in my life last Saturday and I am still recovering from its gusts of cries and speeds of emotion.

Where your heart goes, your mind closely follows. It is similar to a seed germinating and taking root in the soil. Where the seed goes first, the plant grows second.

And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts, living within you as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love; and may you be able to feel and understand, as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how deep, and how high his love really is; and to experience this love for yourselves, though it is so great that you will never see the end of it or fully know or understand it. And so, at last you will be filled up with God himself.” -Ephesians 3:17-19 TLB

Taking college classes in High School (as I did) is a far cry from packing up all your teddy bears and blankets to navigate a new campus, as the little freshman ant, all the while juggling classes and sleeping in a room with a stranger. And don’t get me started about missing the warmness of home and the food. By no means am I complaining, I’m just stating that this transition has been a bit, for lack of better words…traumatic :).

My point is that for the first time in my life, I had to draw strength and love from my heart. My family wasn’t there. My favorite cupcake wasn’t there. My comfy safe haven of room wasn’t there. And in that moment, my heart was the only stability I had as my eyes swelled, and my mind left me high and dry.

What was in my heart, you wonder? Promises of God’s Love, Faithfulness and Peace. Promises that would’ve continue to hover, just below the surface of my consciousness had the pressure of college life not revealed them.

Sometimes life will force you go heart deep in your walk with God. And it just might be that move to a new city, that career change or a negative bill of health that propels you to silence all other voices and listen to heart…the place where Jesus’ love deeply roots and grounds you…

Until Sunday,
